Happy, Healthy New Year

As 2018 begins, I encourage you to practice and experience love, gratitude, compassion and connection. When we are truly present with these feelings, we feel whole and well. When we're feeling those positive emotions, we tend to take better care of ourselves, interact more effectively (and nicely) with other people, and make better decisions because we have a solid foundation. Why not bring more of this kind of wellness to the practice in a way that is intentional, thoughtful and practical?

Going forward into 2018, I challenge you to Be….yourself. Belong….to something bigger and Become….who you were meant to be. In the New Year, let’s continue to collectively improve the health and well-being of your employees. As your consultative partner, I look forward to further engaging with you and your practice to create long-lasting behavior change and a healthier population.


Practice Wellness Grant

Are you a NCMS Plan practice seeking a creative way to financially support your health promotion efforts while effectively engaging, motivating and incentivizing your employees?

The Practice Wellness Grant Program, with the mission of financially rewarding practices for launching a sustainable health promotion program or expanding an existing one, is a platform for you to get started or continue building upon your successes. Practices have the opportunity to earn up to $100 per enrolled employee ($20,000 max) for implementing the CORE components.
“We are excited to welcome back this program and recognize that practices, like people, are unique, so our goal is to offer flexibility in tailoring programs that meet the needs of our population” said Jason Horay, Health Promotion Manager for the NCMS Plan.

Practice Wellness Personal

Practice Wellness Personal, an employee assistance program, is designed to support healthcare professionals with best in class counseling, life coaching and digital content unlocking emotional, mental, physical and financial wellness. Practice Wellness Personal is available to NCMS Plan members at no additional charge.

Reflection on China

In November, I had the great honor to teach a public health course at Dalian Medical University in China. The course addressed behavior, social factors, and health promotion theories related to individual and population health. The class is a requirement for Chinese students, mostly physicians and nurses, working toward a Master in Public Health (MPH).
I am so grateful I was able to travel to a new land and learn about the personal and cultural differences and similarities. Going into this trip, I expected to make a small impact on the well-being of a group of health care providers, possibly leading to more widespread change in China, but instead I felt the greatest impact was on me. Despite being 8,000 miles away from Raleigh and with numerous cultural differences, I was reminded that we are all humans trying to make a difference, connect and love others, and leave a legacy for those we love.

New Year, New YOU with Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less

Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less is a 15-week online weight management program that works because it's NOT a diet - it's a lifestyle! All weekly classes are conducted online in real-time by a live Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and are accessible on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. Why Choose Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less?

One-on-One Support
Live Online Delivery

Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less 2 is a 24-week program intended for those who have completed the Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less program. Classes are held online with a live instructor and are accessible on a computer or mobile device. Lesson topics go more in depth and include Choose Healthy Fats, Manage Stress, Control Sugar, and more.

Both of the Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less (ESMMWL) Online programs are components of the member preventive care benefits and are therefore covered at no charge. To enhance the level of engagement and maintenance, however, members are required to pay a $30 fee at the time of registration (a $235 value), which is 100% refunded upon completion of the program for meeting tracking requirements.
